SLR 2004/06 (EN/DE) PERIODIKUM

Writer’s round-table discussion at the 11th International Book Fair in Budapest, almost on the eve of Slovakia’s joining the EU. Under the heading The Crossroads of Literature, Slovak-Hungarian literary relations were discussed by  (from left) Karol Wlachovský, former director of the Slovak Cultural Centre, Alexander Halvoník, the director of the Centre for Information on Literature, the novelist Anton Hykisch, poet Peter Maczovský and critic Jaroslav Šrank.

Bologna Book Fair 2004

Author Jana Bodnárová with Ľubica Kepštová, a poet and editor of the children’s monthly Slniečko (Sun), at the national stand of the Slovak Republic at the 41st international fair of books for children and young people Bologna 2004. As part of the attendant literary programme, Jana Bodnárová, Ľubica Kepštová, Miroslava Vallová and Miloš Kopták, together with the representatives of several Slovak publishing houses held a discussion on Central Europe Literature. Moreover, the artist Miloš Kopták held an illustration atelier  at one of nursery schools at central Bologna.

Paris Book Fair 2004

The artist Miloš Kopták and Daniel Pastirčák, children’s books author and illustrator, during creative ateliers at Espace Jeunesse, intended for the youngest visitors of Salon du livre Paris 2004.

As the organizer of national book presentations of the Slovak Republic, the Centre for Information on Literature had its première at this distinguished francophone international book fair held in Paris on March 19-24 2004. In its stand, twenty publishers presented their production of over 200 books.

International Book Fair Prague 2004

In the course of this book fair, Kornel Földvári, literary critic, humorist and connoisseur of all the "low" genres of literature, introduced the PETROV publishing house and the Czech translation of the book Roger Krowiak (apparently a brother of James Bond), written jointly by thirteen Slovak authors (and one authoress).

International Book Fair Warsaw 2004

Writers Anton Baláž and Peter Karpinský reading from their works at the Meeting with Slovak Literature, organized by the Slovak Cultural Institute in Warsaw on the occasion of the International Book Fair 2004. Also reading from his collection of poems translated into Polish was the poet and publisher Peter Šulej. And finally, in the section called Laco Novomeský – a Poet of Beauty and Truth, the Polish public could hear his verses translated by J. Waczków. The poet, whose centenary is listed in the calendar of cultural anniversaries of UNESCO 2004, was introduceed by Radoslav Matejov.
