SLOLIA (SLOvak LIterature Abroad) is the name of the Centre's section which contacts publishers, translators and literary scholars abroad and endeavours to interest them in publishing Slovak literature. It also operates a system of grants and subsidies which tries to cover part of the expenses connected with this activity (mostly the cost of author's and translator's fees and royalties). This system -- the first of its kind in a post-communist country, although quite common in West European countries - is administered through an independent board of writers and critics. Owing to these grants it was possible to publish nearly 200 translations of Slovak titles in foreign countries since 1996, including traditional folk-tales as well as the works of contemporary writers (poets Milan Rúfus, Mila Haugová, Marián Hatala,  or novelists Peter Karvaš, Ján Johanides, Pavel Vilikovský, Vincent Šikula, Peter Jaroš, Anton Hykisch, Michal Hvorecký, Daniela Kapitáňová and others.) The languages of the translations include German, English, French, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Czech, Polish, Russian, Rumanian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Serb, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hindee, Turkish and Chinese.

In addition, SLOLIA publishes a number of publications aimed at foreign translators and scholars interested in Slovak literature and culture.
