Irena Brežná Receives Hermann Kesten Prize

On August 17th, Slovak-Swiss author Irena Brežná received the Hermann Kesten Prize, awarded by the German PEN Centre. Ralf Nestmeyer, vice president of the centre, has stated that in case of Brežná, the centre is not just awarding an author whose work reflects her own immigrant experience, but rather an author who has committed part of her life to tirelessly defending justice and freedom, and who gave voice to dissidents and persecuted people in the Eastern Europe. The prize comes with a financial award of 10.000 EURO. The awarding ceremony will take place in the State Theater of Darmstadt on November 18th.
