In his novel, Hykisch's creative strategy, his ideas and his view of history are brought together through his concentrating on the exeptional extracted from the anonymous historical existence of people. In Hykisch's view, the artist is not exceptional only by being an artist. He needs to encapsulate the main features of the era and the character of the people and being able to communicate this both to his contemporaries and future generations.
