About author

Vadkerti-Gavorníková began publishing her verse in the literary monthlies Mladá tvorba and Slovenské pohľady. The motifs of the death of her father and mother appear throughout her work together with the region of Modra and its old symbols of life in the vineyards, with its customs and traditions. All these motifs resonate with an internal dynamism in which she connects a feminine sensitivity with intellectual reflections on life. The motifs of home and the work of her father in his carpenter`s workshop profoundly marked by her own experience that significantly affected her life.
A second aspect of her poetry is that of a woman in different roles - girl, woman, wife, mother, widow and old woman. In the search for appropriate expression in addition to free association and metaphor she returns for inspiration to nature and folk writings.
She struggles for her own form, precision of poetic vision, adequate designations, power of expression and the internally felt dramatic tension that she finds in nature and human life. She searches for routes towards human happiness creating an enduring relationship between man and woman with conditions that result in something beautiful and lasting. Her poetry is a celebration of life, work and beauty. When she moves into the family environment she is not only sensitively profound and truthful, but also chaste as if she feared threatening an unstable happiness and thus lose it.
Vadkerti-Gavorníková`s poetry is characterized by precision of form and pure expression. She uses the narrative element of story and symbols in repeated motifs or directly in titles such as "about love and not-love","about form and not-form" and so on (from the collection Sandy Song). Here she has incorporated contradiction and interior tension as organic elements.
A certain synthesis in thought with regard to motif together with the authenticity of creative poetic methods is evident in the collection Enduring. It is the expression of
a mature personality with the wisdom of life, a profound human understanding with
a high level of communication, remarkably impressive poetic reflections and clarity of form. It is poetry profoundly rooted in the everyday pains and beauties of life where a dominant position is held by values of home, work, friendship, a person`s struggle for good over evil and the light of life.
Her last collection values the certainties of life, following the loss of her husband,
a highly distressing event opening the door to loneliness. It is a poem of love and death, sacrifice, submission and belief that lessens the pain. She puts into her poems not only her philosophy of life but also her own life. The collections are her internal chronicle, her own curriculum vitae. In each line her tender loving heart, her humanity is present. Her poetry has multiple layers of feeling and thought of modern women in the contemporary world. It is a pyramid of feeling and ideas. For theses reasons she gained a broad readership and belongs to the favourite and most significant poets of her generation.
