Marie-Theres Cermann was born in Thuringia in 1980. After graduating from high school, she completed a voluntary social year in Slovakia in 1998/1999. Afterwards she studied translation for French, Portuguese, Slovak and German as a foreign language in Leipzig, Clermont-Ferrand (France) and Florianópolis (Brazil). She has 3 daughters and lives in Leipzig. She translates specialized texts in the fields of medicine and law, and for several years she has also translated texts and books by Slovak authors such as Balla, Ivan Medeši, Marek Vadas and Ivana Gibová. She also translates articles about literature, culture, society and family, among others, for the German-Czech-Slovak online magazine JÁDU of the Goethe Institute.
