The novel by writer and screenwriter Slávka Liptáková tells the story of three generations of sisters. It is a family saga set throughout the 20th century until the present day. The public space is where the "big history" takes place it is deliberately associated with the lives of male protagonists (e.g. deportation of the Jewish population, collectivisation, imprisonment for illegal activities during the communist regime, etc.) and significantly influences their further fates. Although the author does indeed skilfully and in a small space capture the characteristic features of individual historical periods, she is primarily interested in "small family histories" against the backdrop of "big history".
