Nie / No

Ján Johanides' third book, published in 1967.

The novella No reflects the era of the 1960's, rich in literary experimenting and heavily influenced by the trends evident in world literature (particularly by Sartre, Camus, Butor, Sarraut and Robbe-Grillet). Johanides's prose was viewed as existentialist, but, as Daniel Hevier wrote, it was, more precisely, "a synthesis of the western existentialism and the Slavic, Dostoyevskyan feeling of tragedy."
