Only the Present

With his latest book, the author tries to place himself in the context of our civilization. He points out that eternal social determinism – our actions are predetermined by the acts of our ancestors – the "humanization of patterns" is slow, and at times improbable. But the naive belief that one can fundamentally improve, is inescapable. Seemingly independent backdrops, characters and motifs appear throughout the text. The protagonists, spouses Martin and Catalina, perceive their mutual relationship in the sense of the trite phrase "everything is connected", and deliberately create such relationships themselves. They make and mix assumptions that appear like facts, propose alternatives to reality, as if they believed that by doing so they will affect both their own heritage and the future global factors, and that they will avoid a compulsive renunciation of their natural roles.
