Tatarka's cult surrealist book was first published in 1944 by Matica slovenská.
Written in suggestive language, it tells the story of a group of young people searching for their identity amidst WW II.
Set in the romantic corners of old Bratislava, this story revolves around the mysterious Anabella, a girl, a muse, a miraculous virgin. She is young, fragile and inexperienced and she inspires tender confessions and jolly antics. You have to tiptoe around her so as not to scare her. At the same time, she is miraculous and tempting and inspires wilderness. She is a woman who plays with fire, a cheater, a femme fatale. She makes the heads of the men around her spin. The group of young men in this book are the poets and painters of Bratislava, the contemporary bohemians.
