Supercomics

It might seem that Slovak comics are very much the back-markers, compared to comics in the surrounding world. To a certain extent that’s true. Slovakia doesn’t have any intensive comics past. But lately it has been trying all the more intensively to catch up on what it missed! In this small country in the middle of Europe, a number of examples of comics taking various approaches have emerged. And what is interesting is that these are mainly original authors’ works. Comics must carry on an intense struggle with publishers and readers, who are not much inclined to enter uncharted waters. Despite that, in our milieu the graphic novel and comics have not given up and are committing themselves to battle with constantly new challenges. The collection you are holding in your hands seeks to bring you the most interesting of what has emerged on the Slovak comics scene in recent years. Sad, witty, absurd – the plot scale is highly diverse, even within the small space of this ollection. So do not be afraid to enter and make closer acquaintance with the unexplored comics territory.

The anthology of Slovak Comics was published in French by Slovak Literary Center at occasion of the guest of honouring of Slovak literature on the international bookfair Livre Paris 2019.
