The brilliant essayistic novella offers a critical, sometimes even heretical insight into the Slovak soul (or, to be more precise, into the soul of the Slovak writer and reader) and can be read as a well-aimed fire at the weak spots of Slovak national and cultural identity. The reflections, inspired by a sentence of the permanently angry Austrian author Thomas Bernhard, are intertwined with the haphazard and brief yet intense and tragic attraction between an aging man and a - still young - woman.
