About author

The eccentric and overexposed content of Vámoš`s works is best demonstrated by psychopathological cases which he studied as a doctor. He transformed symptoms of various mental diseases into reality, making his patients speak of the hatred he felt for the average man, the mindless crowd, the illusions and petty sentiments and self-delusions which we so stubbornly hang on to and he takes these motifs to the bitter end, reaching the very roots of pessimistic outlook and belief. His writing, however, has an opposite pole too. There is a tone of childish naiveté and adoration with which the author out of positivistic belief elevates and celebrates things and scenes that have special meaning for his personal growth. Vámoš has never reached that purity of form which would communicate the ideological content of his novels. The novel Atoms of God is full of situations that are more like independent stories within the novel.
Andrej Mráz

What is the method of Vámoš`s novel? The novel Atoms of God revolves around two centres: one is the philosophical framework and second is the reality of direct observation and experience. Both are Vámoš`s and therefore are authentic. The hidden meaning appears as an allegorical grotesque whereas on the social level which is inspired by the author`s experience as a doctor his writing is surprisingly and sometimes cruelly physiological, full of naturalistic detail.
