Curriculum vitae

Born 25 July 1948 in Bratislava. He studied German, English and Swedish at Comenius University in Bratislava from 1967 - 1972. He worked as an editor with publishing houses in Bratislava from 1972 until 1981. Then, for a decade, he worked as a freelance writer and translator. From January 1993 to June 1995 he served in Oslo as the head of the Slovak Embassy in Norway, accredited for Iceland. Since October 1995, he has been the director of SLOLIA (Slovak Literature Abroad) at the Centre for Slovak Literature in Bratislava and the chief editor of the Slovak Literary Review that appears in English and German. Since 1997 he is a member of the Austrian writers' organisation Grazer Autorenversammlung. From August 1999 he chairs the Slovak Literary Translators' Society.
