Peter Karvaš`s prosaic talent developed on two, often intersecting, levels: one serious and the other humorous and satirical. If someone someday starts to study his works, perhaps he will find that Karvaš was a natural satirist, though by no means superficial, and that his humour and satire went straight to the core of things.

Peter Karvaš never made attempts to innovate his style or writing method just because others did. Until the present day he still manages to escape modern (modernistic or post-modern) extravagancies and radicalism. He is still the attentive onlooker who first experiences a situation and only after living through it again makes comments and assumes an attitude. Often it seems as if he hyperbolizes reality, adding to it new dimensions. Sometimes he even crosses the border between the normal and the absurd. But appearance, as we know, is deceptive.
