Before the festival
The Center for Information on Literature was offered the position of the guest of honor multiple times. However, we had to wait until 2015 to finally be able to accept and start with intense preparations. One of the turning points had been the regular ongoing workshops for translators, led by the translator Renáta Deák in the Slovak Institute in Budapest.
The concept of the stand
The motto of Slovakia’s guest of honor position at the book fair was Good Books Make Good Neighbors.
The author of the graphic design and of the exposition in Budapest was the architect Pavol Choma. He came up with an intriguing concept for the stand when he built a wall that had words on it, which have the same base in both Slovak and Hungarian. The striking national stand had a little podium for live program and it stood on 100 square meters near the entrance of the central hall of the Millenaris congress center.

Translations into Hungarian
40 Slovak books entered the Hungarian book market thanks to our presence in Budapest – a distinct increase compared to past years. At the same time, it is the same number of Hungarian translations that our SLOLIA program had supported since its 20-year-old existence.
