About us

The Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium in Straelen is worldwide the first and largest international centre for translators of literature and non-fiction.  Das Kollegium was founded in 1978 in the town of Straelen near the border with Holland, under the patronage of Nobel prize winners Heinrich Böll and Samuel Beckett and on the initiative of above all the Beckett translator Elmar Tophoven, born in Straelen, and Klaus Birkenhauer, then chair of the Verband der literarischen Übersetzer (Association of Literary Translators). The goal of the Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium is to… Read more
