Dear friends, it has been over a year since we at LIC started to prepare our interviews about Slovak culture (or more specifically literature) in foreign langauges: German, English, and, most recently, also in Hungarian. Today, we invite you to listen to the last episode of the German-language series LIT_cast Slowakei with Eva Profousová. Our many thanks go to the hosts of the series Michal Hvorecký and Mirko Moritz Kraetsch for their excellent work in preparing and hosting the podcast, to all our guests for their inspiring talks, and to you, our listeners for your interest. We hope that the podcast interviews for foreign fans of Slovak literature will resume in fall.
Translator Eva Profousová was born in Prague and as teenager, she fled from Czechoslovakia to Hamburg. Today, she is one of the most important translators from Czech and she actively strenghtens the connections between these two literary cultures. In the 27th edition of LIT_cast Slowakei, she tells us about how German came into her life, why she doesn't translate into Czech (and what are the specifics of translating into her mother tongue), and what she has in common with Slovak. And with her interview, the German podcast comes to an end.
Die Übersetzerin Eva Profousová ist in Prag geboren und flüchtete als Jugendliche aus der Tschechoslowakei nach Hamburg. Heute gehört sie zu den profiliertesten Übersetzerinnen aus dem Tschechischen und ist als Literaturvermittlerin zwischen beiden Kulturen aktiv. Wie die deutsche Sprache in ihr Leben kam, warum sie nicht in ihre Muttersprache übersetzt (und was diese Übersetzungsrichtung so besonders macht) und was sie mit dem Slowakischen am Hut hat, das und noch viel mehr berichtet sie uns in der 27. Ausgabe von LIT_cast Slowakei, mit der die deutsche Version dieser Reihe zu Ende geht.
