Curriculum vitae

Born 30 December 1874 in Martin. After graduating at the gymnasium in 1893 he continued his studies at the Law Academy in Prešov. In 1901 he finished postgraduate studies in Cluj (Romania) with a doctor`s degree. Jesenský worked in several law firms and then as an independent lawyer in Bánovce nad Bebravou. In 1914 when the First World War broke out Jesenský was arrested as a Slovak nationalist. In 1915 he was sent to the Russian front but he soon went over to the Russians and joined the Czechoslovak legions in Russia. He was an editor of the Slovak supplement of the magazine Čechoslovák and vice-chairman of the Czechoslovak National Council. In 1919 he returned home and served in the newly established administration for two terms. He was chairman of the Slovak Writers`s Association from 1930 to 939. Jesenský died 27 December 1945 in Bratislava.
