The Cursed Monastery (Zakliaty kláštor) is the first part of a new series called Šarkan’s Treasures (Šarkanove poklady). This time Juraj Červenák has moved from the period of the anti-Turkish wars to 1874 and experimented with a fusion of several adventure genres - detective story, horror and western. The main character is Adam Šarkan, who returns to the Kingdom of Hungary after fighting in the American Civil War, when his sister Júlia asks for help in searching for her missing husband, Henrich. A parish priest and a collector of fairy tales, Pavel Dobšinský and his stepdaughter Zuzana get involved in the investigation. The mystery of Zuzana’s origins, along with the robbery of a shipment of money for the administration of the Coburg estate, are two of the novel's main themes.
