MODRÝ PETER was established in 1991. Its main focus is on publishing poetry, both Slovak and in translation, on books for children and on literary theory. It also specializes in promoting Slovak literature abroad. Over the years, MODRÝ PETER has produced anthologies of Slovak poetry in English, German, French and Polish. In addition, we have produced selections of works by the Slovak poets Miroslav Válek (in cooperation with the UK-based Bloodaxe Books), Ján Buzássy and Ivan Laučík.
At MODRÝ PETER we attach great importance to the graphic design of our books. The publishing house closely cooperates with key Slovak graphic artists and book designers. This approach to books as art objects has on three occasions been honoured with the Ministry of Culture Prize for Publishing Care, and by numerous Slovakia's Most Beautiful Children's Book and Slovakia's Most Beautiful Book awards as well as the Všeobecná úverová banka award.
