Maia Nachkebia studied Ancient Greek and Latin languages and literature at the Tbilisi State University (1982-1984), Slovak language and literature at the Faculty of Arts of the Comenius University in Bratislava (1984-1989), and at the Department of Medieval Studies of the Central European University in Budapest (1994-1995). She received her doctorate at the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, where she works as a researcher at the Department of Literary Theory and Comparative Studies. She is fluent in English, Russian, Czech and Slovak, and has partial knowledge of French, Old Slavonic, Ancient Greek and Latin. She has translated several books from the Czech language and dramas by Július Barč-Ivan (Diktátor [Dictator], Človek, ktorého zbili [A Man Who Was Beaten Up], Dvaja [Two]), a novella by Ivan Hudec, Experiment "láska" (Experiment "Love") from Slovak. She lives in Tbilisi.
