Slovak Poetry in Patras

Patras International Poetry Festival 2023 opens its gates on 7 September

The sixth edition of the successful international festival comes with the motto "Invisible People/Invisible Thoughts" and will welcome 50 poets from different countries.

This year's festival features three new and very interesting artistic projects that will take place from 4 to 14 September, while the main part concerning poetry will take place from 7 to 10 September.

The events associated with the festival, which will be attended by distinguished guests, internationally renowned academics, writers and representatives of cultural organizations, include poetry readings at various venues, tours of major regional attractions, musical evenings, as well as parallel events such as the Poetry Alley with an exhibition on the city's central pedestrian street featuring banners of the participating poets and their poems, and the Meet Poetry project with talks by poets, critics and publishers. The participants' poems will be included in the bilingual Anthology of the 6th Patras International Poetry Festival.

Two eminent Slovak poets Mila Haugová and Zuzana Husárová have accepted the festival’s invitation, and their planned participation was supported by the Slovak Literary Centre and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Athens. At the last minute, however, both had to cancel their trips due to reasons related to health and logistics.
