A brief yet powerful novel depicting the dramas of childhood as experienced by Ota and Andrej, a couple who adopt a pair of albino twins exposed to abuse and exclusion because of their otherness. Stitched together from fragments spanning the decades from the mid-1950s to the present day, the book is a meditation on motherhood, femininity, marriage, and the imminence of death.
The author’s poetic and, at times brutally honest, voice is complemented by Eva Moflárová’s sensitive illustrations.
