Peter Macsovszky was born in Nové Zámky and graduated with degrees in Slovak language, art and English language from the Faculty of Education in Nitra. He worked as a nurse, the editor of literary sections in various weeklies and literary magazines, teacher, editor of trailers in a private television channel, copywriter in an advertising agency and for some time he worked at the Encyclopaedic Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. As part of the International Writers Programme, he spent three months in the USA in 1997. He is the author of twenty collections of poetry, a dozen works of prose and numerous translations.
